We would like to draw your attention to the following event in the current exhibition “Bismarck-Dispute”:
GUIDED TOUR: Curator Johanna Riedel and Various & Gould guide through the exhibition.
Thursday, January 18th 2024, 6 – 7 PM
Otto von Bismarck is still met with veneration and nationalistic exaltation by many people today, but there is also growing unease and the urgently needed critical examination of him and his role in European colonialism is being called for more and more frequently. In our opinion, a long-term (artistic) commentary on the Bismarck monument in Berlin (and elsewhere) would be desirable, but it is good to see that the debate is also being conducted in a museum context.
In addition to pieces from the collection, the exhibition also shows artistic positions, including the project “Monumental Shadows – Berlin”, which was carried out in 2021 as a pilot project together with Colonial Neighbours (SAVVY Contemporary), the curator Lynhan Balatbat-Helbock and other artists. On display are the large fragments of the monument cast and Frederic Leitzke’s video documentation.
